Most yards end up with a mix of posts. Steel T-posts down the line, wood at the corners, a length of old pipe where something got rebuilt. Carrying three different insulators to suit them is how you end up short of the one you need at the far end of the field. This one handles all three. It is a jumbo body in UV-stabilised white plastic that mounts to a T-post, a wood post or a metal pipe, and the oversized shield holds the conductor away from the post to cut down on arcing and voltage leak. Patriot lists it for fence wire, polyrope, coated wire and braid, which covers most of what goes on a cattle or horse fence. Twenty-five per pack, SKU 814587. The pinlock is the practical part. The pin comes out, the conductor lifts free, and the insulator stays on the post. That is useful on a fence you open for haying or drop for a season, where you would otherwise be prying wire out of a closed insulator with a screwdriver. On wood, fix it with nails or screws through the mounting holes, front or back of the post depending on which side the stock press. Where a line will need frequent access, standardise on the pinlock across the whole run so you are not carrying two tools.
