Details
Wide tape exists for one reason: horses need to see the fence. A 1-1/2 inch white tape stands out against snow, stubble and dark timber at a distance, so a horse that spooks reads the boundary before it reaches it rather than after. That visibility is worth more than raw shock power in a paddock or a turnout. Six stainless steel conductors are woven through the webbing rather than laid on top, which spreads the current across the tape and keeps it conducting even if a strand or two lets go over the years. The weave also gives the tape enough body to hang straight instead of twisting up in wind. Run it on tread-in posts for temporary paddocks or on equine-rated insulators for a permanent line. Wide tape does catch wind and snow load, so keep spans between posts shorter than you would with wire, tension it firm but not banjo-tight, and join it with tape buckles rather than knots - a knot crushes the conductors and kills the line past that point. Patriot lists a one-year UV guarantee on this tape.
