Screw-in ring insulators go in fast with the right driver and painfully slowly without one. This tool holds the insulator square and lets you drive it home with a drill instead of twisting each one in by hand. Anyone who has insulated a long fence line knows why that matters. A mile of posts is a lot of insulators, and doing them by hand costs you knuckles, time and enthusiasm somewhere around post forty. With the tool chucked in a drill it is a couple of seconds per post and you keep moving down the line. It also keeps the insulator going in straight, which matters more than it sounds. A crooked insulator throws the wire off line and works the screw loose over a few frost cycles. If you are building or rebuilding permanent fence, buy the tool once and it pays for itself the first afternoon.
