Details
Batteries are the wear part in any solar energizer. The panel and the electronics will outlast several of them, and when a unit starts strong in the morning and fades by evening, or cannot carry through a cloudy stretch, the battery is usually the problem rather than the charger. This is the correct 12V gel cell for the SolarGuard 155, so you get the unit back to full service without guessing at a substitute. Gel cells are sealed, which is what lets them live inside a weatherproof housing, mounted at whatever angle the post gives you, without spilling or venting. Cold is hard on any lead-based battery. A cell that runs fine in July shows far less usable capacity at minus twenty-five, so a fence that just barely made it through the fall is the one that quits in January. If you run a solar unit year round, check the battery in September rather than discovering it during a cold snap in the dark. Replace it before the short days arrive and you save yourself a lot of walking.
