The PS5 is the smallest solar unit Patriot builds, and it is honest about what it is for. Patriot rates it at 0.07 stored joules, 0.04 joules of output, up to two miles of fence or eight acres. That is a pest and small animal fence, not a cattle fence. Where it earns a spot is the job with no power nearby and no need for much punch. A hot wire around a garden at the back of the property, a strand keeping raccoons or skunks out of the coop, a line around a dog yard, or a temporary run protecting a young shelterbelt from deer browsing. The 2W panel and the 4V rechargeable battery are built into the housing, so there is nothing to wire and nothing to plug in. With this little output, everything depends on a clean line and a solid ground connection. Grass lying on the wire is a real problem for a unit this size, and dry summer soil will take most of what is left. Keep the panel facing south and unshaded, clear snow off it, and check the fence with a tester rather than trusting the flashing light. One-year full replacement warranty including lightning.
