There is a practical reason to run yellow on the strands you handle. Walking a fence line at dusk, checking a section after a storm, or finding the wire you want to unhook, a bright insulator every post tells you where the conductor is before you reach for it. Twenty-five per pack. The claw grips the conductor from the side rather than enclosing it, so wire can be lifted out and dropped back in without unthreading, and it fixes with nails or screws through the mounting holes on either face of the post. Patriot lists the claw range for poliwire, polirope and steel or aluminium wire on wood posts and metal pipe, under product codes 880 0003-264 and 880 0003-265. The lift-out grip is why these end up on cross fences and lane fences that get opened seasonally. Nothing needs to come apart. The wire comes out of the claws and lies on the ground until the fence goes back up. Keep the mounting height consistent post to post. Stock learn a fence by where the wire sits, and a line that wanders up and down teaches them to look for the low spot.
