An offset wire is the strand people forget about. It sits out from the fence line at chest or waist height, out where you would normally walk beside a fence, and in long grass or low light it is invisible until it finds you. Yellow is the answer to that, and the reason a lot of operations use it on every offset regardless of what colour the rest of the fence is. This one holds the conductor 50 mm (2 inches) proud of the wood post, comes with nails in the pack, and takes polywire or fence wire. Twenty-five per pack, Patriot SKU 820031. The 50 mm offset suits alleys, lanes and any line where a wider standoff would be in the way of a tractor tire or a stock trailer. Where you need animals held further back from the fence face, the 5 inch version gives more clearance. Treat it as a line fitting. Corners and terminations belong on strain insulators, and none of the slant range is rated for high-tensile wire.
