An offset wire is the cheapest way to save an existing fence. Cattle lean on page wire or rub a rail until the whole line goes crooked, and a hot wire standing off the face of the post keeps them back from it without rebuilding anything. The 50 mm (2 inch) slant is the short offset. It is enough to stop stock reaching the fence with their heads and shoulders, without adding so much width that machinery starts catching it in a lane or a narrow alley. Nails come in the pack, twenty-five insulators to the box, and Patriot lists it for polywire and fence wire. Black body, SKU 820030. Mount them on the stock side at nose height for the animal you are keeping in. On a mixed group, a second wire lower down closes the gap for calves that will otherwise walk under the first one. These are line insulators and are not rated for corners or high-tensile wire. At a corner, take the offset wire back to the fence line and terminate it on a proper strain insulator rather than trying to carry the tension through a slant.
