Patriot wire loop strainer
An in-line strainer with a 580 mm (23 inch) wire loop that passes right around a corner or end post to take high tension.
Details
Tensioning wire against a corner post by hand and hoping the twist holds is how fences end up sagging by August. A strainer lets you pull the wire up properly and take the slack out again later, without cutting anything or rebuilding the tie-off. This one uses a 580 mm (23 inch) wire loop that passes right around the post, so the load is carried by the post itself rather than a staple or a bolt. The frame is galvanised with an aluminium spool, and the spring clip holds the tension while you wind. Patriot lists it under product code 880 0010-912, and it is built for corner and end positions where the strain is highest. You will need a strainer handle to wind it. Patriot's is product code 880 0003-217, sold separately. One handle serves the whole fence, so buy it once and keep it on the truck. Tension in stages around a paddock rather than pulling one wire tight and moving on. Wire tightened hard on a cold day will hang slack in the heat, and wire pulled up in July will be near its limit in a deep freeze, so leave something in reserve at both ends of the season.
