Wide polytape is the standard horse fence conductor because a horse can see it, but it will not sit in an ordinary wire insulator. Fold 40 mm of tape into a narrow slot and it creases, the fine conductors inside the weave break, and the run goes dead somewhere you cannot see. This insulator is cut to take the tape flat. It handles politape up to 40 mm (1.5 inches), snaps onto the front of a standard T-post, and holds the tape across its full width so the tension spreads instead of concentrating on a fold. White body, twenty-five to a pack, Patriot SKU 814717. It is a line insulator. Corners, ends and any point where the tape changes direction need a strain insulator built for the load, and none of these are rated for high-tensile wire. Set the tape height to the horse rather than the post. Chest height on the tallest animal in the paddock is the usual starting point for a top strand. Leave the tape slightly less than drum tight, because polytape moves with temperature and a run tensioned hard in July will be straining every insulator on the line come January.
