On a top wire, the insulator and the post cap are the same problem. You want the conductor sitting at the very top of the post, and you want the cut steel edge covered, and doing that with two separate parts means the insulator ends up an awkward few inches below where you wanted it. The topper does both. It snaps over the top of a standard T-post without tools, covering the edge, and the slip-in channel closes around the conductor. Patriot lists it for poliwire, polirope and braid, politape in both 12 mm (1/2 inch) and 40 mm (1.5 inch) widths, and coated or sighter wire. UV-stable white polyethylene, ten per pack, SKU 814705. It is a line fitting only. Corners, ends and high-tensile wire are outside what it is rated for, and the tension at those points has to go into a proper strain insulator instead. Running the hot strand at the top of the post rather than partway down keeps it away from grass and away from a horse's chest, and it means every post caps itself as you go. White shows well against dark ground and bush lines, which is the usual reason people choose it over the yellow.
