Details
Fibreglass and steel rod posts are the cheap way to put a temporary or offset line across a field, but almost nothing designed for T-posts or wood will grip a round post properly. The insulator either spins on the rod or will not close around it at all. Patriot sizes this one for round posts from 6 to 19 mm (1/4 to 3/4 inch) in diameter, covering the common fibreglass rod and light steel rod sizes. It carries politape in both the 12 mm (1/2 inch) and 40 mm (1.5 inch) widths, and it screws on under compression rather than clipping. Product code 880 0003-242, twenty-five per pack. Measure the rod before ordering. Heavier fibreglass posts and some pigtail stakes sit outside that range, and forcing an insulator onto an oversized rod will crack the body the first cold snap. Wide tape catches wind, so on a rod post line the insulator is only half the job. Set posts close enough that a gust does not bow the tape into the post, and keep the tension moderate. Tape pulled drum-tight on light rod posts will pull the posts over before it breaks.
