Portable energizers are only as portable as their mounting. The PB12 is built to be moved, but it still needs to sit off the ground, upright, and stable enough that it does not tip the first time a cow decides to rub on it. This stake is that mounting. Push it into the ground and the energizer sits on top, which means you can set the unit exactly where the fence is rather than where a convenient post happens to be. On strip grazing that matters. Every time you move a break you move the energizer with it and keep the lead-out short, instead of running long leads back to a fixed point at the edge of the field. It also keeps the unit up out of the wet. An energizer sitting on the ground collects standing water in spring, sits buried in snow through winter, and is grown over by the middle of July. Up on a stake it stays visible, stays dry, and stays where you can check the indicator without crawling around in the grass. Pull it and move it in under a minute when the mob shifts.
