Sheep and goats are the hardest stock to hold with any fence, and netting is usually the answer. Sheep push under, goats climb over, and lambs and kids find gaps a cow would never notice. Netting closes the whole face of the fence instead of relying on a few strands they can work between. The roll is roughly 165 feet long and 35 inches high, with built-in posts spaced about twelve and a half feet apart and eight horizontal wires. The posts are part of the net, so setting up is a walk-and-tread job, and the same net lifts and moves once the ground has been grazed off. That suits the way most people graze small ruminants out here, in short bouts on fresh ground. The one thing netting demands is a clean bottom line. Grass touching the lower wires shorts a net far faster than it shorts a single-strand fence, and a shorted net with goats behind it gets found out the same day. Mow the line before you set it, run an energizer with enough output for the total length you have standing, and pick the net up before freeze-up so it is not frozen into the sod come spring.
