Details
The SolarGuard 80 is the small end of the solar range, and a sensible pick for a horse paddock, a garden, a few sheep, or a single strand keeping dogs and nuisance animals where they belong. Patriot rates it at 0.11 stored joules, 0.08 joules of output, up to five miles of fence or 15 acres, off a 3W panel and an internal rechargeable 6V battery. The whole unit is one weatherproof box with flashing lights, so you can confirm it is pulsing without opening anything, and a fence lead set comes with it. Multiple mounting options help on an acreage, where the natural spot for it might be a fence post, a T-post, or the side of a shed. The thing to be realistic about is output. Fifteen acres is a clean-fence figure, and at 0.08 joules there is nothing spare for grass on the wire or a lazy ground rod. Mow or spray under the line, drive the rod into ground that stays damp, and test the fence rather than trusting the light. Face the panel south, keep it clear of snow, and Patriot covers it three years including lightning.
