Details
The SolarGuard 150 is the acreage-sized solar unit. Patriot rates it at 0.21 stored joules, 0.15 joules of output, up to 12 miles of fence or 40 acres, running off a 3W panel and an internal rechargeable 6V battery. It is a genuinely portable, all-in-one design, fully weatherproof and light enough to move with a rotation or pack out to a corner you decided to fence on a whim. Flashing lights tell you it is pulsing from a distance, so a walk past the fence is enough to know the thing is alive. A fence lead set comes in the box, which saves a trip back to the shop halfway through the job. Forty acres is a plausible number on a clean, well-grounded line and an optimistic one on a fence buried in quack grass. Solar units this size have no output to spare, so keep the wire clear, use a proper ground rod in damp soil, and check the line with a tester now and then rather than assuming. Angle the panel south and keep it free of snow through the short days. Three-year warranty including lightning.
