The PMX350 is a serious mains unit: 6.4 stored joules, 3.5 joules of output, and a Patriot rating of up to 65 miles of fence or 200 acres. It is built for places running long perimeter fence with multiple cross fences hanging off it, and for anyone tired of a fence that tests fine in May and quits in July. Extra joules mostly buy you tolerance. Tolerance for grass and brush brushing the wire, for a longer run than you first planned, for the strand you added last fall, and for the stretch where the ground is too rocky to get a rod in properly. A fence with margin still bites at the far end when the near end is loaded up with weeds. Wire it to a 110V outlet in a dry building and take the lead-out through the wall. Then give it the ground field it deserves. On units this size, more rods spread further apart beats one rod driven deeper, which matters in the sandy and gravelly soils common through central Alberta. Three-year warranty including lightning.
