Details
The PMX120 is the unit a lot of quarter-section operations end up on. Patriot rates it at 1.7 stored joules, 1.2 joules of output, up to 30 miles of fence or 100 acres, which is enough to carry a perimeter plus a few cross fences without running out of push. Stored joules and output joules are not the same number, and it pays to know which one you are comparing. Stored is what the capacitor holds; output is what actually reaches the wire. Patriot publishes both, so you can compare honestly against a brand that only quotes the bigger figure. It runs on 110V and offers several mounting options, so you can set it inside the shop wall and take the lead-out through to the fence. Keep it sheltered and dry. Coverage figures like 30 miles assume a clean line and a solid ground field, and neither is a given in this country: grass loads the wire by mid-June, snow shorts the bottom strand by January, and dry or frozen soil makes grounding harder than the manual suggests. Three ground rods is not overkill. Three-year warranty including lightning.
