Patriot PE5B fence charger (dc)
Battery-powered energizer running on 6V or 12V, rated by Patriot at 0.2 joule for five miles of fence or twenty acres.
Details
The PE5B carries the same 0.2 joule output as the plug-in PE5, but it runs off a 6V or 12V battery instead of a wall outlet. That is the whole point of it: power where there is no power. Strip grazing a quarter with no yard pole, a temporary bull pen at the far end of the section, a portable corral at a bush camp or a rodeo grounds. Hook it to a battery and you are hot. Patriot rates it at up to five miles of fence or twenty acres. Those are clean-fence numbers. Grass on the wire and a lazy ground rod will cut into them quickly, and out here the ground field is usually the weak link, because dry, gravelly or frozen soil conducts poorly. Add rods rather than hoping. Watch your battery. A deep cycle 12V will run a unit this size for a long stretch, but cold weather takes capacity out of any lead acid battery, so check state of charge on winter fences or pair it with a solar panel. Two-year warranty including lightning.
