Details
The PE2 is the small end of the Patriot plug-in range, built for jobs where you need a hot wire but not a lot of it. Patriot rates it at 0.1 joule of output power, up to two miles of fence, or roughly eight acres. That covers a garden perimeter, a chicken run, a dog yard, or a short strand keeping deer out of the caraganas. Vegetation on the wire and poor grounding will pull those numbers down, so keep the line clean and give it a proper ground rod. It runs off a standard 110V plug, so it needs to live in the shop, the barn, or under a covered porch. This is not a unit to hang on a post out in the weather. Run your lead-out wire through the wall and keep the energizer dry and above the snow line. An LED tells you at a glance that it is firing, and the knob is heavy enough to work with gloves on in November. Patriot backs it with a two-year warranty that includes lightning, which matters on the prairie where one summer storm can take out an unprotected unit.
