Details
The PBX120 delivers 1.2 output joules from 1.7 stored joules, with a Patriot rating of up to 30 miles or 100 acres. It runs off a 12 volt battery and takes an external solar panel, which is the combination that makes real sense for pasture that sits nowhere near a power pole. That describes a lot of ground in this province. Summer pasture on a lease, a quarter across the road with no service, a set of paddocks well back from the yard. With a panel and a deep-cycle battery it runs unattended all season, and Patriot points this size at medium to larger livestock numbers rather than a garden or a pony paddock. It mounts on a wall, a wood post or a T-post, so you can set it up wherever the fence and the sun both suit. LED indicator, low impedance design, and a three-year warranty including lightning protection. Two things to watch on any solar and battery setup: size the panel and battery for December, not July, and keep the ground rods properly clamped, because a strong energizer on a poor earth is just an expensive light.
