A latch you have to fight is a latch that gets left open. This one is built for one-handed operation and opens from inside or outside the gate, which is the difference between working stock smoothly and standing there wrestling a chain while cattle drift back past you. Everything is zinc coated. That matters at a gateway more than anywhere else on the place, because the ground there is churned, wet and salted through half the year, and untreated steel hardware in that spot does not last. Patriot backs it with a one-year warranty. It takes a padlock, which is worth thinking about on any gate that fronts a road allowance or a shared access. A gate that swings open on its own or gets opened by somebody who does not know the place puts your stock on a highway, and a lock removes both possibilities. On internal gates you will likely never use the lock, but the same latch works fine without it, so there is no reason to stock two different ones.
