There are points on every system where several conductors have to come together and all carry current: the corner assembly where four or five line wires are tied into one circuit, the spot where the lead-out cable from the energizer meets the fence, the junction where an underground run surfaces to feed a distant paddock. A joint clamp is what makes those connections properly. The body is solid zinc, which gives you two things at once. It conducts well, and it does not corrode away at the contact face the way a plated fitting does after a few seasons of meltwater and manure. Five to a pack. They take underground cable, steel wire and aluminum wire, which is exactly the mix you get at a junction where an insulated lead comes up out of the ground to meet bare line wire. Do this job with a wrap and a twist and it will read fine on the day you build it. Two winters later the joint is loose, the contact is oxidized, and you are chasing a voltage drop through a mile of fence looking for a fault that is sitting at your corner post.
