Patriot hi-tensile wire cutter
Cutters built for high-tensile fence wire, which is harder than ordinary wire and ruins pliers that were not made for it.
Details
High-tensile wire is not mild steel. That is the whole point of it, and it is also why an ordinary pair of fencing pliers comes away from it with a notch in the jaw. Trying to cut hard wire with soft cutters gives you a mangled end, a damaged tool, and often a wire that lets go under tension somewhere you did not want it to. These are made for the job. They cut high-tensile cleanly, leaving a square end that will feed through a crimp sleeve or a strainer properly instead of a chewed end you have to file. Keep them in the fencing kit and keep them for wire. The temptation with any good cutter is to use it on whatever is at hand, and a pair that has been through a fence staple or a piece of rebar is no longer a pair you can trust on hard wire. On a working fence line, most of what you do is cut, join and strain, and doing the cutting part well makes the other two go right.
