Patriot electric fence tap fwt 3-4 (10 pack)
Ten tap connectors for 12.5 to 14 gauge wire, used to branch a jumper off an existing fence line.
Details
Every fence needs jumpers. Wires tied together at a corner assembly so they all carry current, a lead run from the energizer out to the line, a branch taken off the main run to feed a cross-fence. A tap is the fitting that makes that connection onto a wire without cutting the wire. These are the FWT 3-4 size, rated by Patriot for 12.5 to 14 gauge wire, ten to a pack. That covers standard high-tensile and the lighter smooth wire most people use for jumpers. The reason to use a proper tap rather than wrapping a jumper around the line comes down to contact. A hand-wrapped connection has a small, uneven contact area that corrodes and works loose through the freeze and thaw cycle, and it turns into a resistance point that quietly costs you voltage. Every one of those on a long run adds up. A tap holds solid metal contact and stays that way. Keep a pack in the truck, because the day you need one is the day you are already three miles from the shop.
