Patriot crimp sleeves 2-3 (100 pack)
One hundred crimp sleeves sized for 12.5 gauge wire, the bulk pack for a full fencing job rather than a repair.
Details
Twelve and a half gauge is the standard for high-tensile fence across the prairies, and this is the sleeve that joins it. The 2-3 size, one hundred to a box. Buy the hundred pack when you are building rather than patching. A mile of five-wire high-tensile fence has a splice at every roll change, a jumper at every corner assembly tying the wires together, connections at the energizer end, and terminations at every gateway. That adds up fast, and running out of sleeves halfway down a line on a Saturday is its own kind of misery. The reason to crimp rather than twist comes down to what winter does. A wrapped joint loosens as the wire expands and contracts through a forty or fifty degree annual swing, and once it loosens, moisture gets into the contact and resistance climbs. A properly set crimp does not move and does not corrode at the contact face. Set them with a proper crimping tool, give each one a pull to check it, and that joint will outlast the fence.
