Patriot brace pin - 10"
Galvanized ten-inch brace pins, five to a pack, that lock the horizontal brace into the upright posts of a corner or end assembly.
Details
A brace assembly is only as good as the joint between the horizontal rail and the two upright posts. Toenailing it will not hold. Under the sustained pull of a strained fence, especially through frost heave and thaw, a nailed brace works loose and the whole corner starts to lean. A brace pin drives through and pins the rail into the post so the assembly acts as one piece. These are the ten-inch pins, sized for the heavier timber you would use on a main corner, an end assembly at a gateway, or anywhere a long high-tensile run terminates. Five to a pack, galvanized right through for rust resistance, meant for wood posts. Build the corner once and build it properly. Bore your rail, drive the pin, and the assembly will still be square when the fence around it has been restrung twice. The extra length here matters when your posts are full diameter, because a pin that only just reaches through gives you nothing to hold against a load that pulls in the same direction for twenty years.
