If cattle are pushing through an existing barbed wire or page wire fence, a single hot wire held out in front of it will stop them, and this is the piece that holds it there. The extender wraps around a standard t-post and carries the wire 5 inches off the face of the post, on the animal side. Five inches is the offset for stock that are actually crossing a fence rather than just rubbing on it. The wire finds them well before they reach the wire behind it, so the existing fence stops taking the beating and stops needing repair every spring. Holding the wire that far off the steel also keeps current from bleeding into a wet or snow-buried post. Yellow makes the line easy to see, which is useful when you are checking fence from the truck and useful for anyone on foot who might otherwise walk into a hot wire. It accepts poliwire, polytape, aluminum or steel wire, wraps on by hand with no tools, and comes off just as easily if you move the line.
