Patriot 5' ground rod kit (3 rods, 3 clamps, 50' steel wire)
A complete grounding kit with three 5-foot galvanized rods, three clamps and 50 feet of steel wire, for building a proper energizer ground bed.
Details
A poor ground is the most common reason an electric fence underperforms, and it is invisible. The energizer light blinks, the wire is intact, and the fence still will not turn an animal. The circuit only completes through the soil back to the ground bed, so if the rods are too few or too shallow, the animal never feels the full shock no matter how good the energizer is. This kit gives you a real ground bed: three 5-foot galvanized steel rods, three clamps, and 50 feet of steel wire to link them back to the energizer. The general rule Patriot gives is roughly 3 feet of ground rod per joule of energizer output, so three 5-foot rods covers a good range of unit sizes. Drive the rods at least 10 feet apart in the dampest ground you can find, keep them well away from any building ground or buried utility, and clamp the connections tight - steel wire to galvanized rods, the same metal throughout, so the joints do not corrode. In a dry Prairie summer or with frost in the ground, a deeper, wider-spaced ground bed is what keeps the fence working.
