Every twisted wire joint on an electric fence is a future fault. Two wires wound together look fine, but the joint moves with wind and frost, oxide works its way in, and eventually it goes resistive. The fence loses voltage and you spend a day walking the line trying to find out where. A crimped joint does not do that. The sleeve is compressed solidly onto both wires and it stays that way. This tool has four slots so it handles the common crimp sleeve sizes, and it is built for fence wire rather than electrical work, with enough jaw and enough handle to make a full crimp in cold weather with gloves on. Use it every time you join wire: splicing a broken line, tying a lead-out to the fence, connecting jumpers between strands, joining aluminum wire (which is the worst offender for corroding at a twist), and terminating around strainers with line taps. Pair it with the right sleeve size for your wire gauge and give each sleeve a full crimp at both ends. This is one of the tools that quietly separates a fence that holds from one that needs constant attention.
