This is the applicator most Y-Tex tags are designed around, and the one to own if you run All American visual tags. It also handles the full Y-Tex insecticide tag line, which matters in July when the fly tags go in and you do not want to be hunting for a second tool. The design is aimed at placing the tag where you actually intend it to go. Two-piece tags need the button to seat squarely against the back of the ear, and a tagger that lets the halves wander leaves you with a tag hanging crooked or one that never locks properly. The heavier frame is meant to survive being dropped in an alley, closed on a headgate rail and generally treated like every other tool in a working chute. Before a big day, check the pin for burrs and make sure the jaw is not packed with dried manure. A tagger that has sat in a shed since last spring is worth five minutes on the bench, because the middle of a hundred head is a poor time to discover the pin is bent.
