Details
By early July a cow with a bad horn fly load stops grazing properly and stands switching instead, and you can see it in the calf by fall. Insecticide ear tags are one of the tools used against that, working off the animal's own head movement to spread active ingredient through the hair coat. GardStar Plus carries permethrin at ten percent. The label lists control of susceptible horn flies, face flies, Gulf Coast ticks and the spinose ear tick, and aids in control of lice, stable flies and house flies. Not all of those matter in western Canada, but horn flies, face flies and lice certainly do. Apply with a Y-Tex UltraTagger Plus, and read the label for the number of tags per head and the age of cattle it may be used on. Rotate chemistry between seasons rather than running the same active year after year, and pull spent tags at the end of fly season as the label directs. These are insecticide tags. They carry no identification number and are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
