Buying numbers a thousand at a time changes how a processing day runs. Nobody is writing tags the night before, nobody is deciphering somebody else's handwriting at the chute, and the sequence never doubles up because two people were numbering out of the same bag. The feedlot tag is deliberately compact at three and a half inches by two and three eighths, with a printed panel of one and three quarters by two and a quarter. Smaller than a cow tag on purpose: less to catch on a bunk rail, a headgate or a neighbour's mouth in a crowded pen, and still plenty of number to read down an alley. It is a one-piece design applied with the Y-Tags one-piece applicator, and feedlot numbering is inkjet printed. This size of order suits backgrounding lots, custom feeders and anyone taking in outside cattle who needs a clean pen number the day the load comes off the truck. Keep the bags in order and pull sequentially so the paperwork matches the pen. These are management and visual identification tags and are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
