Not every animal needs a tag the size of a playing card. The 1-Star measures three and a quarter inches by two, with a writing panel of one and a half by one and three quarters, which suits calves, smaller-framed cows and anywhere a full cow tag is simply more ear than the animal has to hang it on. Combo means the bag holds both halves, male stud and female panel, so there is nothing else to order. The tag is moulded from Y-Tex's polyurethane formulation with a ribbed neck and a Snap-Lok collar to keep the button and panel from working apart. It goes in with a Y-Tex UltraTagger. Yellow is the colour most outfits run as their base herd tag, which is exactly why it is useful: once yellow means ordinary, any other colour in the pen means something. Blank leaves the numbering to you, which is the sensible choice on a smaller herd where the system changes as often as the calf crop does. These are management and visual identification tags and are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
