Tru-Test 20w solar panel (special order)
A 20 watt polycrystalline solar panel with mounting bracket and pre-installed regulator, giving a mid-sized 12 V energizer charging headroom in dull weather.
Details
Most flat batteries on solar fence setups are not a fault in the panel, they are a sizing problem. A run of grey days, an energizer heavier than the panel was chosen for, and the battery never quite gets back to full. Twenty watts buys the margin that stops that slide. The panel uses polycrystalline cells in a rugged aluminum frame and arrives with a mounting bracket and a solar panel regulator already installed. The regulator sits between panel and 12 V battery, using diodes to prevent overcharging on long bright days when the energizer is drawing far less than the panel can supply. Think of the extra wattage as reserve rather than as more power. On a clear July afternoon a 10 watt panel and a 20 watt panel will both keep a modest energizer alive. The difference shows up in late October, or through a week of overcast, when the larger panel is still putting back more than the night has taken out. Set it on a post or bracket clear of shade, angled south and steep enough that snow slides rather than sits. Sweep it off after a storm, and check battery voltage occasionally rather than waiting for the fence to go quiet. Available on special order.
