Details
Weighing cattle in an alley works well right up until the animals baulk at the setup. A platform with a low profile and a surface that feels solid underfoot gets them walking on without a fight, which is most of the battle when a whole draft has to go through in an afternoon. The AP600 measures 610 by 2220 mm (24 by 87.5 in), built from 6 mm (quarter inch) aluminum with a 13 mm (half inch) rubber mat held down by aluminum plates at each end. Three full-length stiffeners run underneath, the edges are capped, and the deck is drilled to take MP600 load bars directly. It weighs about 52 kg (114 lb), so two people can shift it. Match it with MP600 load bars, which bolt into the pre-drilled holes and give a 2000 kg (4400 lb) system. MP800 bars are longer and belong under the wider AP800 platform, so the two are not interchangeable. Any Tru-Test indicator will read the bars without recalibration. Set the whole assembly on firm level ground. Packed dirt is workable, concrete is better. Check that the platform is not fouling the alley sides or a gate frame, because anything touching the deck gets weighed along with the animal. The rubber mat is bolted rather than glued, so it can be replaced in the field when it eventually wears through.
