Electrolytes get used hardest in the months you have least time to think about them: haul, ride, sweat, repeat. Buying a size that lasts the season is half the battle. The formula is a powdered apple-flavoured electrolyte. Per 30 gram dose the label gives 18 g salt, 6 g potassium chloride, 240 mg magnesium oxide, 60 mg calcium carbonate and 5.55 g dextrose, a sodium to potassium ratio of roughly four to one, which is the shape of what a horse actually sweats out. Feed 30 grams daily, about one scoop, mixed into the drinking water. Keep plain water available alongside it every single time. Horses vary in how they feel about flavoured water and none of them should end up drinking less because of it. At this size one horse in steady work will get through a full season, which makes it the sensible middle option between the small tub and the bulk size.
