Horse
Electrolytes and Hydration
Horses lose salt and minerals in sweat, and an electrolyte replaces what plain water and hay do not. Pipestone Farm Supply lists eleven horse electrolyte and hydration products. Daily-feed powders include Mad Barn Performance XL Electrolytes in 1 kg, 5 kg and 20 kg, Strictly Equine Power Quench apple flavour in 2.27 kg and 13.6 kg, and Pharma-Vet Quench-Lyte electrolyte formula. For hauling and show days there are paste and liquid formats: Golden Horseshoe Electro Paste 80 g and the Equi-Jug 80 mL, and Strictly Equine Aqua-Lytes 3.8 L to add to the water. Golden Horseshoe potassium chloride 1.5 kg is a plain KCl source for owners who mix their own. Feed electrolytes at the rate on the label, and ask your veterinarian before supplementing a horse that is not sweating. Ships Canada-wide from Millet, Alberta.
