Details
Once you are mixing electrolytes for more than two or three horses a day, small tubs turn into a nuisance and an expense. This is the bulk size of the same apple-flavoured powder. The formulation does not change with the container. Each 30 gram dose supplies 18 g salt, 6 g potassium chloride, 240 mg magnesium oxide, 60 mg calcium carbonate and 5.55 g dextrose, at roughly a four to one sodium to potassium ratio. The dose is 30 grams a day per horse, added to drinking water. At 13.6 kg that works out to something over 450 doses, which is a working season for a small string or a very long one for a single horse. Scoop from it into a smaller labelled container for daily use rather than hauling the whole thing stall to stall. Store it sealed and dry. Salt-based powders cake badly once they take up moisture, and a caked tub is difficult to dose accurately. Whatever the size, always leave plain water beside any treated bucket.
