Speedrite wood post pinlock insulator (25 pack)
Wood post pinlock insulators, part SI027, 25 per pack, holding wire up to 4 mm or braid in a slot closed by a lift-out pin.
Details
The difference between a claw and a pinlock shows up the day you need the wire out. A claw grips from the side; a pinlock closes the slot with a pin. Pull the pin and the conductor lifts clear while the insulator stays on the post, which matters on any line that comes down for haying, machinery or a change of paddock layout. This is Speedrite's wood post pinlock, part SI027, twenty-five to a pack in UV-stabilised black. It takes steel wire up to 4 mm (8 gauge), polywire or braid, and the body carries twin spark guards with an increased wire-to-post distance to cut voltage leaking into damp timber. Treat it as a line fitting. Corners, ends and high-tensile strain positions want a purpose-built strain insulator, because the pin that makes the wire easy to remove is not what you want holding the tension of a whole run. Fix it front or back of the post with nails or screws depending on which side the animals push from, and keep the pins together when you drop a section of wire. A pinlock system with no pins is just an insulator you have to cut the wire out of.
