Details
Politape is the standard half-inch poly tape for temporary and semi-permanent electric fence. This one carries nine stainless steel strands, which Speedrite rates at 1.5 times more conductive than standard poliwire, and it is UV stabilised to hold up through summer sun and prairie winters. Tape is the conductor of choice where you want livestock to see the fence. Horses in particular respond to a visible line, and the white shows up against green grass, stubble and snow. For strip grazing, corral setups, temporary lanes and short cross fences, tape on a reel goes up quickly and comes down just as fast. Stainless strands are a good fit for shorter runs where you are not asking the conductor to carry power a long distance. Once you get past a few hundred metres, or you are hanging a lot of line off one energizer, look at a tinned copper conductor instead. Tension by hand rather than cranking, use tape insulators at posts, ends and corners so the strands are not pinched, and join with tape buckles rather than tying knots that break the conductor path.
