The Speedrite 1000 Unigizer puts out 1 joule and is rated to power up to 40 acres or 10 miles of fence. The unigizer design is what makes it useful out here: the same box runs on 110-volt house power, on a 12-volt deep cycle battery, or on solar, so you are not buying a different energizer every time the job changes. That flexibility matters on remote pasture with no power at the corner. Set it on a battery through the grazing season, bring it into the shop and plug it into mains over winter, or add a 10 watt solar panel and leave it out. Speedrite lists the 1000 as compatible with a 10 watt panel. It ships with a battery lead, a 110 V power adaptor and a fence lead set, so it is ready to hook up. Size it honestly. The 40 acre and 10 mile figures assume a clean fence — good grounding, decent insulators, grass off the wire. Snow load, frost-heaved posts and green growth all pull voltage down, so if you are running near the limit or expect heavy vegetation, step up to a larger unit rather than hoping. Ground it properly with enough rod; more energizer problems in this country are grounding problems than anything else.
