An end strain insulator has the hardest job on the fence. It takes the entire tension of a run at a single point, in the weather, for decades, and when it fails the wire goes down and takes the corner assembly's alignment with it. Speedrite builds this one from reinforced glass-filled polymer with heavy UV stabilisation and lists a ten-year warranty on it, under product codes 880 0003-209 and 812842. The grooves are cut deep so the wire seats and does not twist under load, and the body is shaped to give a long leakage path, which is what keeps voltage on the fence rather than tracking down a wet insulator to the post. It suits most sizes of fence wire and is rated for high strain use. Five per pack. On a rectangular paddock, four corners and two ends of a single-wire run will use the pack and leave you short, so count the terminations across the whole job before ordering, including every strand at every corner rather than just the corners themselves. Give the insulator a straight pull. Where a corner turns hard, splitting the angle across two posts keeps the load in line with the insulator instead of trying to bend it sideways, and that is the difference between an insulator that lasts its warranty and one that does not.
