Speedrite uninsulated spring clip wire strainer (10 pack)
Ten uninsulated spring clip strainers with galvanised frames, usable in-line or at an end to tension and rejoin fence wire.
Details
Wire goes slack. Frost heaves a post, an animal hits the fence, a splice pulls through, and a line that was tight in spring is hanging by fall. Retensioning by hand means cutting and rejoining, and every joint you make is another place the fence can fail. These strainers let you wind the slack out instead. The frame is galvanised with an aluminium spool for rust resistance, the spring clip holds tension while you work, and there are two winding holes to reduce slippage when you are pulling a broken wire back together. They will sit in-line partway along a run or at an end strain position, and they are built for high-strain use. Ten to a pack, Speedrite part SA100. They are uninsulated, which is the thing to note. On a live wire the strainer becomes part of the conductor, so keep it clear of the post and off anything earthed, or use an insulated strainer where the fitting has to sit against timber. To use one, open the clip, seat the wire, feed it under the notch and turn the strainer body with a wrench while setting the clip. Take the tension up in stages along the whole run rather than pulling one section hard and moving on.
