There is a point in every fence problem where you stop blaming the wire. You have walked the line, cleared the grass, checked the joints and driven another ground rod, and the reading at the energizer terminals is still short of what the unit should be putting out. The Speedrite 3000 stores 4.5 joules and releases 3.0 joules of output. Those two numbers are worth keeping separate, because the stored figure is what goes into the capacitor and the output figure is what the fence gets. The unit runs from a 110 volt adaptor, from a 12 volt battery, or from solar with a panel in the 20 to 60 watt range. This is the storage capacitor for that model, carried by distributors as part 809721. Ground it properly before you condemn the box. Speedrite calls for a minimum of 2.7 m (9 feet) of ground rod on the 3000, and an under-earthed energizer will read low no matter what is inside it. If the unit is still under warranty, check before opening it. Speedrite lists a three-year warranty on the 3000, and self-servicing may affect that.
