Speedrite storage capacitor (Speedrite 2000)
The service capacitor for the Speedrite 2000, the 2.7 joule stored, 2 joule output energizer that runs on mains or 12 volts.
Details
Off-grid energizers give you a specific kind of trouble: it is never obvious whether the problem is the battery, the panel, the earth or the box. Working through it in order saves a lot of driving. The Speedrite 2000 stores 2.7 joules and delivers 2.0 joules of output. It runs from 110 volt mains or from an external 12 volt battery, and published battery figures put it at roughly fourteen days on the fast pulse setting or twenty-four days on slow with a 100 amp-hour deep-cycle battery. The storage capacitor inside is what holds each charge before it is released into the fence. This part fits the 2000. Replacing it is an internal job on a unit that may be mains-connected, so treat it accordingly and unplug everything well before opening the case. Work the diagnosis from the outside in. Check the battery voltage under load, then the ground rods, then the fence itself with everything disconnected, and only then look at the energizer alone. Most of the time you will find the answer before you get to the capacitor.
