Speedrite storage capacitor (Speedrite 1000)
A replacement storage capacitor for the Speedrite 1000, the 1.4 joule stored, 1 joule output dual-powered energizer.
Details
Small energizers get the hardest life. The 1000 is the unit that ends up on a portable setup, moved around on a battery, run off an extension cord in a shed, and generally treated as disposable, which it is not. The Speedrite 1000 stores 1.4 joules and releases 1.0 joule of output, and it runs either from 110 volt mains or from an external 12 volt battery. The storage capacitor is the part that accumulates that charge between pulses and releases it into the fence when the unit fires. Stored and output joules are not the same number, and it is the output figure that describes what actually reaches the wire. This capacitor is the service part for the 1000. Fitting it is an internal repair, so if you are not comfortable inside a mains-powered energizer it is worth having the work done rather than guessing. Diagnose before you buy. A weak fence is far more often grass on the wire, a broken conductor or too little ground rod than it is the energizer. Disconnect the fence, test the output at the terminals with the unit on its own, and if it is down by itself, that is when the internals come into it.
