Speedrite screws (pack of 50 tri-tip screws)
A pack of fifty tri-tip screws, the self-starting fasteners used for mounting fencing hardware and insulators to posts.
Details
A tri-tip point cuts its own start rather than wandering, which is the difference between fastening something to a post in a hurry and standing there with a screw skating across the wood. Fifty to a pack covers a good run of insulators, brackets or offsets. The reason these matter on fencing work is that most of it happens outdoors with a cordless drill, often one-handed, often in the wind, and often on a post that is frozen or full of old staples. A screw that starts on the first turn is worth more than it sounds when there are two hundred of them to put in. Drive them square and stop when they seat. Overdriving into a fencing insulator crushes the mounting boss and gives you a loose insulator that will start rattling and eventually leaking, and overdriving into frozen wood will strip the hole. If you are working in hard frost, back the screw out a turn and run it home again rather than leaning on the drill.
