The jumbo reel gets its capacity from a large-diameter bobbin, and that size is also its weakness. A big spool has more leverage working on it when it is loaded and gets dropped, and a split jumbo bobbin is a common enough repair that it is worth stocking the part rather than the whole reel. These reels tend to live outside for long stretches, hanging on an end post through a grazing season, which means the bobbin takes a full summer of UV and then whatever winter does to it if it does not come in. Chalky, faded polymer with hairline cracks around the hub is a bobbin on borrowed time. The good news is that a jumbo reel is a simple assembly, so swapping the spool is a quick job. When you fit the new one, check the frame is still true, because a bent frame will run the bobbin off-centre and crack the replacement the same way. This part is for the jumbo reel specifically. The geared, mega and econo reels use different spools, so match it to the reel in your hand.
