Speedrite replacement bobbin - geared reel

The geared reel puts more torque through its bobbin than a direct-drive reel does, because the crank is turning the spool several times over for each rotation of your arm. That is what makes it fast, and it is also why the bobbin on a geared reel is a specific part rather than a common one. The usual failure is at the drive engagement, where the gearing meets the spool, particularly on reels that have had steel wire run on them or that have been cranked hard against a snagged line. A worn or rounded drive means the crank turns and the bobbin does not, or does so intermittently. Fitting a new bobbin brings a reel that cost a good deal back to full service for a fraction of a replacement. While it is apart, look at the frame insulation and the handle hook, because reels are usually retired for a combination of small failures rather than one big one. Note that this bobbin is for the geared reel. The econo, jumbo and mega reels each take their own, so check which frame you have before ordering.
